| This extraordinary spot that presses against county park on 3 sides sits atop a meandering creek. The house overlooks the creek bottom, and the garden wraps around the house then meets the creek. We sited a garage and a wooden pergola to frame views to the banks of woodland surrounding the creek. A sense of drama is achieved as the land falls off and a manmade waterfall echoes its descent into a saline spa/fountain. This is an old fashioned garden, 'Grandmother's Garden' or 'Jardin de Cure' (Country Priest's Garden)---soft plantings, colorful flowers and shrubs, English roses and hand chiselled masonry paths, walls, steps and a driveway and courtyard define this garden creation. Such gardens are inspired by a vision that is at once old and new, and such gardens as this are a refuge from modern stress. |
