Into the Land of Winnie the Pooh

IMG_0607.jpg

There are parks along the Potomac River and winding creeks feeding the Potomac over the bridge in McLean. Years ago the field stone house was sited and built along a winding creek with several foot bridges criss crossing. Over the course of 5 years, we integrated gardens and connections into the sloping landscape transforming the space into a hidden spot we nicknamed the 100 Aker Wood (A.A. Milne). The landscape was regraded in one critical area to bring privacy to the sunny side of the house which overlooks the creek. Stone paths, pea gravel driveways and terraces, masonry terraces and fountains, masonry steps, circular steps, lawn steps, extensive vegetable gardens and stone walls, a chicken palace, orchard, more paths, a barn and a cottage were all added seamlessly as though they had been there since General Washington’s days.
