Impressions of Venice
This Venetian masterpiece was inspired by our client's love for jewel tones, water gardens, Venice and English herbaceous borders. Warm colored sandstone was used for the masonry, hedges and climbing vines provided architecture and texture, and we used classic renaissance forms as we set about rebuilding this postage stamp garden and transforming it into a garden of antiquity. Fountains spill into the pool helping to drown out street noises. All rooms of the house open onto the garden, providing both color and light to the interior rooms. The garden's linear space has been transformed into a painterly combination of tapestry hedges which turn the orange brick into a lustrous green and yellow, and long shrub and herbaceous borders offering a wide range of shade loving plants. An iron arch layered with vines connects both water features adding a shady spot to rest and giving the garden a central focal point. The sound, fragrance, color and texture in this garden create a magic that our clients have loved for many years.
